Leather Slapper, 11 in., 14 oz. Lead Loaded, Hand Strap I ordered this slapper thinking that it would be stiff leather that would flex. When I received it, I was surprised to find that it is very stiff with very little “give” to it. You can bend it a very small amount, but not very much at all. I’m not really sure if “slapper” is the right name for this, it may be better described as a leather paddle.

It is very well constructed and feels solid in my hand. The hand strap on the butt end is connected by inserting the ends into pockets in the leather of the slapper, then secured with black rivets that match the leather. There is no give in the connection and it feels solid enough to last a long time. I have fairly large hand, and the strap is just the right length to grip the bulb at the bottom. It also gives support to my grip and helps me to swing it easier.

What surprised me the most was just hard this thing hits. When it arrived, I gave it a couple of test hits against my palm and my first thought was that it hit like a baseball bat. A light swing will produce a rather hard, thuddy strike. It is not hard to produce some deep bruising with this item.

One warning, though: Because of the lead weight in the striking end of the slapper, this is only to be used on soft tissue. I would only recommend using this on the backs of the legs or the bottom. I can see the potential for broken bones if used on the torso or the front of the legs.
